Mehndi designs is a traditional form of Indian art. It uses a paste made up of leaves of a henna plant which leave a color a distinct on your hand when you apply it. The leaves of the tree are dried in sun and then powdered. This powder is mixed with water and eucalyptus oil so that it colors better. You have to keep this paste on your hand and then remove it after sometime. Mehndi is regarded as a good omen and people apply it on good occasions. According to Indian tradition it is believed to have the blessings of god over it.
Mehndi designs are a beautiful combination of different Indian motifs. The motif includes paisli, flowers, leaves, elephant, fish, etc. All these motifs are arranged in a continuous manner so that it looks like a continuous design. Inside these motifs different types of filling are done which fills up the space in between designs and it looks more complete and magnificent. It can be of different types like Indian which is more traditional or indo western that is more modern type of design. It is either done with hand of with the help of a cone which helps in making very fine designs which looks like a carved design on paper. The deeper it colors the more beautiful it looks.
It can also vary according to the length, some designs can be of longer length done for important occasions and some designs are of shorter length done for moderate occasions. Mehndi designs in different styles are mostly seen in weddings. Every time the bride demands better and exclusive designs. Many times the name of the Groom is carved with the designs and then the bridal asks him to find the name.
This is one kind of tradition which has been practiced almost by every couple during their wedding days.
